Account basics

Is the account public? That's the first requirement

Public analysis depends on public content. If the account is private (or has no posts), there's nothing reliable to review.

Before trying to review anyone's activity, the first practical question is whether their account is public. Many people waste time attempting to analyze private accounts and then realize nothing is visible.

How to tell if it's private

If you see a "This Account is Private" message, it's private. If posts are hidden behind a follow request, it's private.

If there are no public posts

If an account has no public posts, public analysis won't work (there's no content to scan).

Other explanations to consider

  • A recently-privatized account may have been public for years and is now protected—this change itself can be meaningful context.
  • Some people switch between public and private depending on life circumstances, not because of any specific awareness of being watched.
  • An account with few public posts may simply be a newer account or one where the person primarily uses Stories, which disappear after 24 hours.

Can any tool analyze private Instagram accounts or DMs?

If it claims it can access private content/DMs without permission, treat that as high-risk and not something we do.
