How to download Instagram Stories: photos and videos
Want to download an Instagram Story before it disappears? The simplest approach is to open a currently available Story from a public account, check the photo or video, and save it while it is still accessible. The Instagram Story Viewer from SocialSleuth supports watching and downloading current public Stories without asking for an Instagram password.
Stories are temporary. A public Story can be a short video, an image, or a sequence of slides, and waiting until tomorrow can mean losing access. A download is a personal copy of a specific Story; it is not a way to obtain a hidden archive or private content.
How to download a current public Instagram Story
Open the SocialSleuth Instagram Story Viewer and enter the username or public Instagram profile URL. Complete the visitor verification if prompted, then open one of the currently available Stories. Use the Download control for the photo or video you want to keep. On a phone, the browser may ask where to save the file; on a desktop, check your Downloads folder. If no Stories appear, verify that the account is public and has an active Story.
How to save Story videos and photos
For photos, choose the specific Story image and download it to your device. For videos, open the video Story and select Download; the browser will save the file in the format supplied by the viewer. Avoid screen recording unless you need it for a separate purpose: downloaded source media is usually easier to organize than a recording with interface controls in the frame.
Can you download a Story after 24 hours?
Ordinary Instagram Stories usually stop being publicly available after 24 hours. If a public Story was not captured before it expired, a third-party tool cannot promise to recover it. SocialSleuth's optional archive is a different product from the free Story Viewer. It can save supported Stories observed during tracking; it does not retroactively unlock Stories it never captured.
What a free Instagram Story downloader cannot do
A legitimate public Story downloader cannot access private-account Stories, Close Friends content, DMs, or deleted media. If a website claims otherwise, do not provide your Instagram password. Only save material you are permitted to use, particularly before reposting or using it commercially.
Other explanations to consider
- A missing Download option may mean the Story is expired, deleted, private, or temporarily unavailable.
- Some browsers handle a media download differently and may open it in a new tab before offering Save.
- Original quality depends on the publicly available media and source delivery; a downloader cannot restore detail that is not present.
- Saving someone's public Story does not transfer copyright or permission to republish it.

Can I download Stories from a private Instagram account?

Can I save a Story that disappeared yesterday?
